As we started reading the story, their predictions about the text changed. The hungry giant gets the children to fetch him some bread, then fetch him some butter and the preps predicted what might happen next.... Could it be Vegemite? Honey? Crunchy peanut butter? Jam?
We discussed various strategies that can be used to help read a story.
- Using illustrations
- Identifying the pattern within the text
- Bringing our prior knowledge to the text
